Upstream Corporate Analysis of Russian Oil Companies27.11.06 03:16

With the top four Russian oil companies controlling almost 15% of the world’s 2p hydrocarbon reserves, their actions are becoming increasingly important in the context of the global energy industry.

Many important questions touch upon these companies:

What is Gazprom and Rosneft’s role as national champions and instruments of Russian government energy policy?

What is the outlook for Russian oil production?

What is Gazprom’s future gas supply strategy for Europe and Asia?

What is the template for future successful foreign investment in this key producing country?

How will TNK-BP’s growth prospects evolve as the state looks to increase its control over assets of strategic importance?

What are Gazprom’s LNG ambitions?

To help you understand their strategic objectives and future role in the oil and gas industry, we are extending our corporate analysis service, RADAR, to cover the leading Russian oil companies. The first report, on Gazprom, was published in September 2006, and will be followed by reports on Rosneft, LUKoil and TNK-BP between October and December.

Through a combination of Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary databases, deep industry knowledge and long-standing regional relationships, we provide unique insight into these key players in the Russian upstream sector. A comprehensive 100 page plus report for each company provides an essential guide to understanding their upstream activities, strategies, key issues and portfolios. In addition, based on fundamental analysis, we provide a detailed examination of their:

organisational structure, including relationship with the government,

domestic political & energy environment,

future oil and gas production prospects,

international aspirations and the opportunities and threats this presents,

existing & target partnerships/alliances, and

exploration & M&A strategy

Subscribers will also receive regular insights analysing the four companies and access to expert analysts to discuss issues arising from the reports.

Following the release of the Gazprom report a Webcall was held in November. Click here for more information on the webcall and sample pages from the Executive Summary.

Wood Mackenzie publishes major new report on Gazprom

On 27 October, Wood Mackenzie published an in-depth 125 page report on Gazprom, the first in its new RADAR Russian Oil Company service.

Gazprom has been much in the news recently. High profile newsflow has included-

Decision not to proceed with foreign participation on the Shtokman field

Proceeding to investment stage with the mega-development of the gas fields in the Yamal peninsular

Security of supply concerns from European gas buyers

Announcements of the intention to supply major volumes of gas to Asian buyers

Ongoing speculation regarding further moves in M&A in the upstream and downstream sectors

We address all of these points in the report, expressing our opinions on the various issues, many of which differ from current \"conventional\" thinking.

Our independent, forward-looking analysis is based on Wood Mackenzie\'s in-depth understanding of Gazprom\'s asset base and the markets in which it operates. This helps us to provide insightful commentary on Gazprom\'s future strategic choices, market focus and diversification opportunities.

The report should be of significant interest to upstream oil and gas companies, financial institutions and all parties involved in global gas markets.

The next report in the series on LUKoil will be published later in November. This will be followed by reports on Rosneft and TNK-BP.
