Kerman police recently confiscated a relatively large number of antiquities from an Afghan national who intended to smuggle them through the country’s eastern borders, IRNA reported.
Head of Kerman Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department said the ancient objects are believed to have been plundered from ancient sites of Amlash and Marlik in north of the country.
Ali Karnama added the objects date back 3,000 years.
According to preliminary police count, the number of discovered objects was 1,140. However, later archeological examinations revealed the haul includes 1,189 pieces, he noted.
“A statue of a bison and a number of daggers, spearheads and arrowheads, necklaces, beads and scent bottles made of glass, agate and limestone are seen among the confiscated objects.“
